Beacon Instructional Partners is an instructional coaching and development firm based in Boston, MA that helps institutes of higher education address their most pressing and important instructional challenges. Our offerings include personalized instructional coaching, targeted workshops and trainings, and customized instructional support services.
We were founded in 2016 with a mission to achieve systemic improvement in the quality of instruction and teaching in higher education and believe that developing faculty members’ instructional skills is the strongest lever to dramatically improving the quality of the higher education experience for students.
We are a team of experienced educators and instructional coaches who help faculty in higher education excel at the art and science of teaching. We work with faculty across content areas and experience levels and help them become unusually effective instructors and teachers.
Our Story
Our firm’s founders, Sarah and David, began their teaching careers in the most demanding of teaching environments: middle school. As they moved into school leadership positions and eventually returned to graduate school, they realized many instructors in higher education lacked the “nuts-and-bolts” instructional training, opportunities for feedback, and expert coaching they benefited from and taught to their teaching staff. At the same time, they saw students in higher education craved the same clear expectations and structured learning experiences they tried to implement in their own classrooms.
Sarah and David founded Beacon Instructional Partners to support instructors in higher education create exceptional learning experiences for all students. Both knew from their experience as teachers and instructional coaches that what often makes the biggest impact on effectiveness and satisfaction in teaching is a deep understanding of pedagogical best practices combined with expert support to refine, reflect, and improve.
Our Name
We love geeking out about instruction at Beacon Instructional Partners. We also love our dog, Beacon, who is our firm’s namesake. Training Beacon taught us that clear expectations, consistency, and intellectually engaging activities can help any student. Beacon’s name also signifies light and guidance, which is what we aspire to provide to educators of all levels and abilities as they engage in the hard work of teaching and inspiring their students.
